How To Pick The Best Countertop To Match Your Lifestyle

Some people may say that cabinets are what make or break your kitchen look, but we would argue otherwise. When designing the heart of your home, you should consider your countertop above all else.

Countertops have the ability to transcend your space into an oasis of luxury. And a well-made quartz countertop will be there throughout the years, remaining a constant throughout all of life’s changes. It’s the surface where you have your morning coffee and the backbone of your daily meal prep.

“You can change out hardware really easily. You can paint your walls really easily. And even for appliances, it’s very easy to swap out one for a higher-end one,” said Liz Margles, Vice President Marketing at Caesarstone. “But it’s not the same with the countertop. You’re not going to change that out.”

A quality countertop is a big investment, and with so many options available, how do you know which one is best for your home?

For that commitment, you need to be sure of the right colour and style. We spoke with Margles about the most popular quartz countertop colours and how to figure out which style will suit your space and your lifestyle the best.

Black Tempal

Black Tempal

If you’re looking for something classy and modern, Black Tempal is for you. This countertop has a worked-in finish, giving it a grounded feel while making it easy to mask any greasy fingerprints. So go ahead, make as much of a mess in the kitchen as you want without feeling guilty.

“One of the benefits of dark colors is that they’re sort of forgiving,” said Margles. “If you spill something, you may not necessarily see it. And that really resonates with some people—they don’t have to clean it immediately.”

A darker countertop like Black Tempal gives you a lot of freedom depending on how you like to decorate your space. You can let the countertop be the standout but contrasting against lighter cabinets or have dark details on all your kitchen fixes for a sleek and modern take.

Empira Black

Empira Black

Empira Black makes a statement. The pandemic has unleashed a cooking passion for many people, and a cleaning spree along with it. Therefore, not only will the Empira Black act as the perfect backdrop for a picture of your Masterchef dish, when glistening and clean, this countertop will make your space feel extra special. Though similar to Black Tempal with its dark tone, Margles says be aware of its smooth finish as it is less forgiving to fingerprints. It does, however, add an extra amount of class. Paired with light coloured walls and cabinetry, the contrast will be picture perfect.

Aterra Blanca

Aterra Blanca

Everyone needs some light in their life, especially after a year of being cooped up in our homes. Choosing a white-based countertop will give your kitchen just the right amount of warmth it needs to make it your favourite spot in the house. The Attera Blanca is a perfect balance of warmth, creating a cozy space for you and your family to enjoy a home-cooked meal. This soft white colour has the advantage of being sophisticated yet discrete, allowing you to fill up your space with appliances and kitchenware without clashing with the design of your countertop. Margles said that whites and greys are always a popular choice, especially for their versatility.

“The beauty of the way that we develop our colors is that whether you’re a real modernist or a real traditionalist, you can use the same color and mix up your cabinetry and they’ll look equally in place.” says Margles.

Arabetto

Arabetto

With more texture, yet still offering a bright fresh feeling, is the Arabetto. The dark veins of jade and copper contrast the crisp white base in an elegant and welcoming finish. A little bit more playful than Aterra Blanca, Arbetto will elevate the luxury feel of your space. This eye-catching design is striking on its own, but adding a bowl of fruit or a piece of greenery will let the elements pop.

Adamina

If you are looking for something neutral and calming, the light, polished beige Adamina will suit your kitchen perfectly. Paired with wooden cabinets and white walls, your kitchen will be a centre with a soft and airy feel. The neutral is a timeless and traditional option, sure to last through any and all trend cycles. The craving for the outdoors has been through the roof during these unprecedented times, and the sand-coloured countertops will give you that open space and relaxing feeling without having to step foot outside your home.

Calcatta Maximus

Calcatta Maximus

Bold. That’s the name that comes to mind when describing the Calacatta Maximus. With the striking veining on this countertop, the design stands out as a piece of art on its own. You can let your counters do the talking and keep the kitchen accessories to a minimum to allow your space to feel bigger and more open. This is the perfect blend for those who want a light space with an extra punch of style.

Rugged Concrete

Rugged Concrete

Edgy and cool, the Rugged Concrete fully embraces an industrial look that will make your kitchen stand out at first glance. The colour and the roughness of the surface is bold, yet timeless. Just like with a black dress, you can dress this countertop up or down depending on your style. Pair it with a darker background to play up the dramatics or add in a plant or two and you’ve got your modern and creative space.
